Scope: The European Commission has tasked ENISA with supporting the certification of EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallets under the European Digital Identity Framework, in line with Regulation (EU) 2024/1183. This includes developing a candidate European cybersecurity certification scheme pursuant to the Cybersecurity Act. According to the Commission, certification is essential to ensure the security, privacy, and cross-border usability of national digital wallets. ENISA stresses that digital wallets are key to secure identification across physical and digital environments and will enhance cybersecurity and privacy for EU citizens. EUDI Wallets, enabled by the new framework in force since May 2024, allow users to store, access, and share personal identification data through a single application, improving authentication across Europe. ENISA’s work will cover harmonized national certification requirements, technical standards, and the preparation of an EU-wide certification scheme. It will build on existing schemes such as EUCC, EUCS, and EU5G, working closely with Member States, expert groups, and stakeholders.
